The Tamer Institute for Community Education is a non-profit non-governmental educational organization working in Palestine. It was established in 1989 in response to Palestinian needs during the first intifada. Our work is governed by four main convictions:
• The importance of investment in available resources in order to meet basic needs.
• Knowledge and education are the most important factors in society’s development.
• Youth are the most important sector in the society building process, particularly in relation to community growth and development.
• The importance of small groups formed through individual initiatives at the community level.
Tamer works primarily with and for children and young people, providing safe, friendly learning environments, where they can learn together, play together and develop together, sharing experiences and ideas expressing themselves creatively through writing, dialogue and art.
Since 1993 Tamer Institute has been publishing books, which have resulted in over 130 titles being published.
