Al-Mintar: Agricultural Watchtowers in the Mountains of Palestine

With Sliman Mansour
Wednesday, April 24, 17:00 - 18:30

Al-Mintar at the Palestinian Museum’s gardens is one of the most significant commissioned artworks done recently by the Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour, in light of the Museums keenness on strengthening the connection with Palestinian architectural heritage.

This work explores the idea of reviving Almanatir (Palestinian agricultural watchtowers) in Palestine’s rural areas starting with the gardens of the museum. These watchtowers hold great significance in the Palestinian rural scene, and like other traditional architectural structures, they are now endangered and abandoned due to several factors. The presence of this work in the Palestinian Museum’s gardens holds great aesthetic and educational value.

Almintar is of particular importance, not only in terms of its architectural design, but also in terms of construction and execution. It also bears a sentimental value that connects the artist to his memories of Almanatir and Palestinian landscape in general which was the focus of many of his artworks.
